Top Picks 01 – M.I.A., The Verve, Solange

Analysis/Discussion: (notice: Our 5 point rating scale is based on the premise that the music is ALREADY hot, therefore a 1/5 simply expresses that it’s not “as hot” in comparison to the current status & overall History of the Genre it represents)

M.I.A. is flat out rockin with her track “Boyz”. It’s a perfect blend between the vibe of Electronic, and the raw energy of House music. Simply unique as always to be expected from M.I.A. (4/5)

“Realize” by Colbie Caillat is a smooth addition to any playlist. It’s such a deep and moving love song, meaning it actually has a damned purpose! Not to mention Caillat kills it with her very memorable voice (4.4/5)

Will.i.am gets busy again with “Heartbreaker”. This song reminds me of the late 70s flare of just solid soul. The subject matter isn’t necessarily ‘warm & fuzzy’, but actually 50% of all so called “love songs” are actually pretty fucked up, lol. So talking about breaking hearts falls right in line with making this track a certified “Love Jam” (4.5/5)

The Verve has released a serious ass track in “I See Houses”. It makes me feel like reflecting and just appreciating the good things in life. The production pushes some steady drums and an “orchestra-like” vibe (3/5)

Young Jeezy & Kanye West mash out on “Put On”. Jeezy delivers his classic “sing-a-long” flow, with a mesmerizing hook to match. Kanye jumps on the song to add his input with the infamous “T-Pain Vocoder” style, yet it actually doesn’t end up sounding cliche. Great track. (3/5)

Solange is a unique and charismatic talent. Her style is somewhere between 60s soul, Jazz, and Neo-Soul. “Would’ve Been The One” has a more pop appeal to it, matched with a killer production (3.5/5)
