Top Picks 02 – Marcos Hernandez, Metro Station, 30 Seconds to Mars

Analysis/Discussion: (notice: Our 5 point rating scale is based on the premise that the music is ALREADY hot, therefore a 1/5 simply expresses that it’s not “as hot” in comparison to the current status & overall History of the Genre it represents)

Do not be alarmed by the unusual nature of Metro Station’s appearance, or the creepiness of some of their lyrics. The overall essence is feel good, emotionally charged life stories, delivered through suggestive metaphors and accompanying energized music videos. <4.5>

Being as though I am not a big G Unit fan (you can quit booing me now), this song struck me as so so. I will admit, there are a few witty punch lines that caused me to crack a small smirk (very small). Overall, this is your typical G Unit project, complete with the rather dumb sounding input of Tony Yayo. (I’ll cut him some slack…I’ve heard him say more stupid things on other tracks). <2>

I am, by no means, a “girly- girl”. But, as a female, I am entitled to a few lovey dovey tracks on my favorites list. This happens to be at the top of the list, mainly because of the undeniable truth of the lyrics. Who hasn’t teetered on that fine line between being in love and being a psychotic stalker? (No need to be ashamed…we all have those days). <5>

My first reaction to this song was to run screaming for my life and sanity. But, after uncovering my eyes and actually watching the music video, and listening to the lyrics, I realized that this song is actually a pretty cool concept, no matter how eerie. The production behind this track is beautiful, and the lyrics fit the mold, making this an exceptional and unique project. <4.5>

Oddly, I do not find it weird that Kanye chose to make this track, as bizarre as it is. Coupled with a melodic, almost trance like backdrop, Kanye’s words are placed in such a way that it is acoustically pleasing as well as aesthetically. Love the creativity, Kanye! <4>

If you’ve never heard any of Marcos Hernandez’s music, shame on you! A perfect blend of sexy lyrics and harmonious instruments, this track, in addition to the others in Hernandez’s catalog, is perfect for setting a romantic mood. Maybe it will inspire the guy to fix dinner and give his lady a nice foot rub or something. (ahem). <4.5>
