Analysis/Discussion:
(notice: Our 5 point rating scale is based on the premise that the music is ALREADY hot, therefore a 1/5 simply expresses that it’s not “as hot” in comparison to the current status & overall History of the Genre it represents)
Santogold – Starstruck
This song is serious! I’m not normally the type to fall “madly in love” with any new artist until they have released at least 2-3 albums, to prove their credibility. In this case though, Santogold has truly blown me away. Starstruck has an ecclectic blend of slowed down trance, with a new wave & emo style twist. Her vocal presence is unique in a way that hasn’t been heard in decades. She’s simply a radical change from the status quo [4.5 / 5]
B.O.B. – Haters Everywhere
The official “fuk off” anthem. It’s certainly true that success breeds envy, and B.O.B. is sure to tell you about it. Haters Everywhere is about motivating yourself to keep moving forward in the face of negativity [3.5 / 5] ( *Jasmine says [4 /5] )
Nickelback – Photograph
Good ol Chad Krueger with those raspy vocals. That alone makes the music special, but more importantly is the message in Photograph. We all have trips down memory lane, and this is a great way to say “goodbye” to times of long ago. Staying in the past only leads you down the path of being a 40-something year old loser, still bragging to people about how you were team captain in High School, lol. This song yields some great advice [3 / 5]
Brick & Lace – Get That Clear
These women are putting the word out Early! Strictly setting the record straight before you even get started. Young women around the world should follow their lead with Get That Clear and set the ground rules on dating/relationships off the break. Don’t allow the disrespect or stupidity to even begin, throw it out the window beforehand. There’s a solid Dancehall flow to this one, and these ladies do it justice [3 / 5]
Weezer – Say It Ain’t So
I love this as the perfect “chill song”. It’s a smooth jam, straight “light” alternative rock for the most part. The chorus on this song is filled with emotion, so watch out, lol [3 / 5]
Estelle – Come Over
Estelle is bringing a straight joyful love song to the table here. Mixed with Reggae vibes and her signature sound, “Come Over” is undeniably cool. Peep the lyrics on the chorus…that’s some solid songwriting. Those words just make you WANT to actually come over [4 / 5]
