Holiday Sorrow

Analysis/Discussion:

“The madness, rage, and lashing out of people simply for the sake of buying shyt, has reached a shameful high point…So, Merry Christmas little Timmy, that new DVD we got you is extra special this year. We had to kill a man to get it for you!”

Black Friday was extra grim in 2008 with multiple deaths occurring IN retail stores throughout the U.S. One of the most tragic was the WalMart employee killed by a stampede of shoppers after opening the doors. The second nationally released incident was that of two men shooting and killing each other at a Toys-R-Us. There are accounts that 2 women became enraged and fought each other right in the store. Both of their boyfriends then proceeded to shoot each other. This is really sad and stupid at the same time! There are multiple families, multiple sets of children, that get to have a funeral instead of a “Merry Christmas”. There must be a counter-balance to this insanity.

I’m all for the super-saver-incredible low prices, but there are definite LIMITS to how far I will go. A store worker, who was simply doing his job, trying to provide for himself, is has now lost his life. All for other people to obtain “$2.00 DVD Specials”. So is that truly the “cost” of a human life now? The madness, rage, and lashing out of people simply for the sake of buying shyt, has reached a shameful high point.

Why do we get so pissed off when we “lose out” on a good deal? Is it some sort of human right to be able to kick the crap out of somebody, just to buy the “last one” of some product? Materialism has it’s time and place, and far too often it’s place ends with someone else’s misery.

The two guys killing each other is ridiculous. Now they have left their girlfriends/husbands alone to be widows, in a dumb ass attempt to honor them through violence. What would have helped them out more: Stopping the whole conflict from escalating in the first place? Or going ahead and getting themselves killed, therefore putting the girlfriends/wives in FAR GREATER PAIN than the fight itself.

And what about the kids. Their children. The family of the WalMart employee who was trampled to death. What about the Blood on those “hot deals” that shoppers got as Christmas gifts.

So, Merry Christmas little Timmy, that new DVD we got you is extra special this year. We had to kill a man to get it for you!
