The Quran: Sadaqa (charity) & Zakah (justification)
Our Journal/Blog Friday, January 2nd, 2009Types of Wealth gained in this post

How do you feel about “having your hard earned money being given to someone else”? Too “socialist” for you? How about “communist”? How about NEITHER… stop being a simple ass!

In a brief summary, Sadaqa is the giving of wealth to charity and Zakah is the justification of this Pillar given by Allah. Muslim scholar Mohammad Shaikh really breaks it down and explains it in the context of the Quran.
It really can be simply seen as a means for each individual to collectively give to their community & society. To help strengthen the very core of everyone’s efforts.
See It For Yourself
So how do we incorporate a part of this principle into our lives at Un World? We make it easy for ourselves by flat out taking 10% of the GROSS profits off the top, and allocate it for child development, health, and education. Our children ARE our future, no questions asked. Simple math will show you that one. When the 5 year olds turn 40, then 40 year olds turn 75!!! (never thought about it like that, huh?)
What types of initiatives do you utilize to help contribute to charity?
Now for the critics & bigots:
How do you feel about “having your hard earned money being given to someone else”? Too “socialist” for you? How about “communist”? How about NEITHER… stop being a simple ass!
Shut the Hell Up #1: In America, African slaves were used as labor to accumulate ASSETS. These assets funded the basis of the Industrial Revolution (it did cost money to buy & build those great big machines… or wait, weren’t they free?, lmao). And fast forward 100 years, which is ONLY two generations, then you’ll clearly see that money being “given to people” today is due to the hard work of someone else. Life is all about community.
Shut the Hell Up #2: You as an individual do NOT solely pay for the Police Department, School system, or Fire Department in your town. Your community of fellow human beings does, and you can easily see the benefits.
This principle of Sadqa/Zakah is so powerful that even the rich & wealthy elites of the U.S. engage in their own In-House version of it (omg… no way, it’s all about individualist material capitalism right? Isn’t it?) So before you get out your “Stingy Self Idolization” flag, take some time to research this and understand how it truly can help your life.
What’s YOUR take on all of this?

It is not fully possible to summarize Sadaqa & Zakah fairly in this section, so further study is encouraged. Also, the formal positions of Islam should be discussed with the designated experts on the field. The beliefs described in this section are mainstream Muslim beliefs. Individual Muslim thinkers may differ, sometimes considerably, with the positions described here. It is nonetheless useful, even with all these limitations, to consider the basis of this information. One source that is excellent on this subject is Al-Islam.org by Ahlul Bayt Digital Islamic Library Project.
